Case Study - Coppice Primary School, Wythall

Airtherm have completed the 1st phase installation of two ‘Wind-iVent’ natural ventilation systems to the newly completed single storey class rooms at The Coppice Primary school. The school is a two form entry school, though larger than the average primary school. The 2nd phase fix features a further six 1.2msq units for the hall area and a further six 1.1msq units serving the classrooms

This new installation of these two natural ventilation systems, through MVS Limited, has been designed and carefully selected from room data sheets provided to ensure an adequate ventilation rate for the occupants.

The natural ventilation systems have been designed in line with all current publications such as CIBSE guidelines, AM10 Natural Ventilation in commercial buildings and Building Bulletin 101. The terminal sizes were calculated using our new computer aided software package ‘Wind-iCalc’ and fully conforms to the CIBSE requirements.

Products: Wind-iVent Systems

Application: Balance Terminals

Product Range
The Airtherm “Wind-iVent” is a natural ventilation system operating on established aerodynamic principles. As external wind  flows around the terminal itself, positive and negative pressure areas are generated. On the positive side air enters the louvres of the terminal and is directed down through the internal vanes into the room below allowing a fresh air supply to be delivered, while on the negative side the stack draws the stale unwanted air which is expelled through the terminal into the atmosphere.

Manufacture

The units are be manufactured in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 and to suit the architectural and design parameters as indicated in the design specification and drawings. Internal airways are to be protected by incorporating anti-bird mesh to the terminal louvers. Our systems can be manufactured to achieve 99.8% effectiveness (class A) when tested with a simulate rainfall of 75mm/hour and wind speed of 15m/sec based on a free area of 55%.

Installation
Units can be installed on almost every roof type including flat, pitched and even on the roof apex where appropriate. The roof fabric of commercial applications has bearing on the openings and roof plates that are required to install the systems competently. We offer a roof plate solution for all situations, including self mount flashings and curb mount flashings with suitable upstands.

Features and Advantages of Wind-iVent:
  • A fresh air supply for workers - proven to increase productivity & reduce staff sickness
  • Naturally ventilated - reduce your energy costs and carbon footprint without the need for  mechanical ventilation
  • Night time purge of stale air - creating a fresh working environment for staff the following morning
  • Better control of building temperature and CO² levels
  • Free cooling

Case Study - Holford Drive Sports Pavilion, Birmingham

Airtherm Engineering have recently completed the new installation of seven natural ventilation systems for Gill Mech Limited based in the West Midlands.

Airtherm designed and selected the correct systems to serve a new boxing hall within a newly built pavilion. The project required critical information to establish the correct airflow and terminal size and working closely with both the consultant, builder and mechanical company.

The natural ventilation systems installed have been designed in line with all current publications such as CIBSE guidelines, AM10 Natural Ventilation in commercial buildings and Building Bulletin 101. The terminal sizes were selected by our new computer aided software ‘Wind-iCalc’ and fully conforms to the CIBSE requirements.

The Airtherm “Wind-iVent” is a natural ventilation system operating on established

of the terminal and is directed down through the internal vanes into the room below
allowing a fresh air supply to be delivered; on the negative side the stack draws
the stale unwanted air which is expelled through the terminal into the atmosphere.

Installation
The Wind-iVent units are installed via specialist crane (working closely with
our on-site engineers). The systems are mounted onto the 3mm thk aluminium, fully
insulated, roof upstands. The units are then fixed and secured to both the upstand and
internal structure using universal fixings.

Once each unit is secured a low-leakage uPVC damper and 24v actuator is fitted,
followed by the insulated plenum and an internal powder coated grille to complete the
system.

Airtherm offer a selection of roof plate solutions for all situations, including self mount flashings
and curb mount flashings with suitable upstands. The options for each project are discussed at the design stage, including the necessary openings that are
required to suit our systems.

The features and advantages of such a system:

  • A fresh air supply for workers - proven to increase productivity & reduce staff sickness
  • Naturally ventilated - reduce your energy costs and carbon footprint without the need for mechanical ventilation
  • Night time purge of stale air - creating a fresh working environment for staff the following morning
  • Better control of building temperature and CO² levels
  • Free cooling
  • Easy to use Stand-alone control solution

Airtherm Engineering have recently completed the new installation of two natural ventilation systems for MVS Limited based in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Airtherm were MVS Ltd first choice when considering the scheme due to our extensive knowledge and experience on previous installations.

The project employed the use of our wall mounted i-Control solution which consists of room mounted ABS plastic control panels with in-built temperature sensor, C02 self-calibrating carbon dioxide sensor with traffic light indicators, night time cooling and external rain sensors. The complete system was commissi
oned by our appointed engineers.

The natural ventilation systems have been designed in line with all current publications such as CIBSE guidelines, AM10 Natural Ventilation in commercial buildings and Building Bulletin 101. Airtherm Engineering have recently completed the installation of two natural ventilation systems at Ashmount SEN School.

Working closely with Derry Building Services Limited (based in Newark), Airtherm designed and selected the correct systems to serve the new school hall. This process required critical information to establish the correct airflow and terminal size and a close working relationship with both Derry Building Services and Leicester Council.

The natural ventilation systems have been designed in line with all current publications such as CIBSE guidelines, AM10 Natural Ventilation in commercial buildings and Building Bulletin 101. The terminal sizes have been selected by our new computer aided software ‘Wind-iCalc’ and fully conforms to the CIBSE requirements.
